This year, the Grammy Awards' Best Americana Album category is loaded with some of the biggest names from the genre. Rich with poignant messages and intricate intersections of musical influences, these albums represent the cream of the Americana crop.

By the Way, I Forgive You from Brandi Carlile features her song "The Joke," which is nominated in the Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance categories as well. Bettye LaVette's blues-driven Things Have Changed, meanwhile, is a throwback to old-school R&B.

John Prine's The Tree of Forgiveness includes "Summer's End" and "Knockin' on Your Screen Door," both tunes nominated for Best American Roots Song at the 2019 Grammys. In the latter category, you'll also find "All the Trouble," from the Best Americana Album nominee The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone, by Lee Ann Womack.

The category's final nominee, One Drop of Truth, is the Wood Brothers' sixth studio album. The project is what they call the "freest" album they have ever created.
