According to KFYR-TV, the Burleigh County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene of a chocolate Labrador being shot and killed in Bismarck.

According to reports, the owner of the pet was out of town when the shooting took place. When the cops arrived, they found the body of the dog. The pet was shot in the chest area. They followed a blood trail to the house of the man who they believed shot the pet.

The shooter said he shot to scare the dog because of past problems with the dog, but actually shot and killed the dog.

The dog was 7 1/2 years old and had a collar on for an electric underground fence, to keep the dog on the owners property. The owner said he was not aware of any previous issues with the dog and neighbors.

Who in their right mind would shoot a dog, for any other reason than the dog attacking them? It boggles the mind!

No charges or arrests were made and the case will be turned over to the District Attorney's office for review of possible charges.

The incident happened Monday, January 8th in NE Bismarck.
