BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Authorities say a Bismarck man is accused of hitting a woman in the head with a can of soup and holding her against her will for three hours by threatening to cut her throat.

The Bismarck Tribune reports 52-year-old Brian Shermer was arrested Sunday morning. He was charged Monday in South Central District Court with felonious restraint, felony terrorizing and misdemeanor simple assault.

It is unclear if he has retained an attorney.

Police say the woman suffered injuries to her head, arms and side. She was taken to a Bismarck hospital for treatment.
