This news coming from the Morton County Sheriff's Department, The Corps sent a letter to Standing Rock Tribal Chairman Dave Archambault on November 25. The letter said the clearing of the land is for public safety. Not only to protect protesters and law officers from violence, but also from the winter conditions.

After Dec.5th, anyone remaining on the property will be trespassing and could be subject to arrest.

The Corps will make a free speech zone available to the public south of Cannonball.
