Under a distracted driving enforcement campaign, added patrols issued a total of 334 citations throughout North Dakota in September.
According to the North Dakota Department of Transportation, 186 of the 334 citations issued were for distracted driving. The added patrols were part of a campaign called, "U Drive. U Text. U Pay." North Dakota law enforcement worked 445 overtime hours during the campaign throughout the state.
The NDDOT website states that distracted driving includes the following:
- Changing the Radio/selecting music
- Waving to other people on the road
- Passengers in your vehicle
- Talking on a cell phone - even if its hands-free
- Eating while driving
- Entering an address in your GPS
Since August 1st, the distracted driving law has included "any distraction that impairs the ability to safely operate the vehicle...If you're distracted while driving and commit a traffic violation, the driver (any age) can be given a $100 citation for distracted driving."
Please be safe on the roads, North Dakota!
