East Coast Hunkers Down for “Major” Winter Storm

NEW YORK (AP) — The Monday morning commute was normal for much of the Northeast, where residents are preparing for a major storm that could dump up to 2 feet of snow on some areas.

But officials throughout the region are warning that getting home may be a different story.

Officials in Pennsylvania say a section of Interstate 81 was closed Monday morning near Harrisburg after a tractor-trailer jack knifed and a truck hauling beer crashed into the median.

Some schools are planning to close early or not open at all in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut because of the potentially crippling snowstorm.

The National Weather Service says heavy snow, powerful winds and widespread coastal flooding are expected later Monday. It issued a blizzard warning for a 250-mile stretch of the Northeast, including New York and Boston.
