A fire ignited in Mandan Sunday afternoon (5/1), forcing the Mandan Rural Fire Department to decide how exactly they should handle it.

The fire, which started between 24th Ave SE and the trolley tracks along the Heart River, was not easily accessible by the Mandan Rural Fire Department.

Instead of attempting to reach the fire, officials decided to just let the fire burn itself out, according to a source on the scene.

Members of the Mandan Fire and Police Departments remain on the scene of the fire. We'll continue to update this post as details become available.
