The warmer weather is welcomed but with the warmer temperatures, come the dry conditions combined with the wind come the danger of grass fires.

With a little luck, the area has a chance of rain on Monday and Tuesday, but according to KFYR-TV, the dry conditions resulted in a grass fire, South of Mandan Sunday. ( May 6)

The fire was reported along Highway 1806, and came uncomfortably close to area homes. The fire was reported around 3 p.m. Smoke could be seen from the downtown area.

The Mandan Rural Fire Department fought the fire for a couple of hours as residents set up sprinkler systems in their yard to wet the area down.

The all clear was set about 5 but the residents still kept their yard hoses near-by and their sprinkler systems on through the late afternoon.
