Hotel Chain Encourages Guests to Leave Tip for Housekeeping.

How many of you leave a tip for housekeeping when you stay at a hotel? There is one national hotel chain that will now gently encourage you to leave a tip for the person that cleans your room.

According to AOL.com, Marriott is launching a program with Maria Shriver to put envelopes in hotel rooms to encourage tipping. Now the question, how much should you leave? Marriott International CEO Arne Sorenson says $1 to $5 per night, depending on room rate, with more for a high-priced suite.

If you've been on a cruise before, it is standard that you tip the person that cleans your cabin, and that amount is about $10 per night.

According to AOL.com, The campaign, called "The Envelope Please," begins this week. Envelopes will be placed in 160,000 rooms in the U.S. and Canada. Some 750 to 1,000 hotels will participate from Marriott brands like Courtyard, Residence Inn, J.W. Marriott, Ritz-Carlton and Renaissance hotels.

Some agree with the new program and some didn't even know that tipping housekeeping was a practice. On the average, most people in housekeeping make minimum wage and some make more in larger markets and cities.
