Often I wonder, how in the world do some people get into the position in life where they command authority or places them in a position to make decisions. Here is an example where someone made a stupid decision and I hope there will be serious repercussions.

There are just obvious things or decisions that you just can't and don't do. Regardless of how aggravated the situation becomes, better judgment should always prevail.

North Kansas City School district is in the national spotlight as the school took away an 8-year-old blind boy's cane as punishment and replaced it with a pool noodle. The student, Dakota Nafzinger, has a condition where he was born with no eyes, was listening to his music on the school bus when the driver took it away from him and replaced it with the type of floatation noodle that a kid would play with in a pool. You see, while listening to music Dakota taps his cane to the beat of the music. This was a source of aggravation to the bus driver.

Dakota's mother decided to call the local news outlet.

The school district released this statement-

"We regret that a mistake was made in making sure the student was in possession of his cane when he boarded the bus Monday evening. The District has apologized to the family and is working to rectify the situation. When we were made aware of the mistake, corrections were made. It is always the District’s policy when we become aware of situations like this, we thoroughly and immediately investigate to ensure a safe learning environment for all students."

The school district caved in from a huge outcry from the community and returned the boys cane, even though it's property of the school district.

This was a cruel and stupid move in the first place. You have to wonder, what educator in charge couldn't see this horrible PR move was going to cause such stir, enough so that the story went national!  How do people like this, the person who agreed with this type of disciplinary action, gets to be in a place where they make decisions, is way beyond me. It's baffling!

What are your thoughts? Did the punishment fit the crime?
