It's something that can often be taken for granted, but illiteracy is a widespread concern. According to research conducted by One World Literacy, nearly 2/3 of students who reach the fourth grade without proficient reading skills end up on welfare or in prison. Now, an area organization is looking to support the literacy of children in our community.

The Minot State University Social Work Organization has organized the Operation 'Need to Read' Book Drive to gather reading resources for low-income schools. Now through Friday, November 22, we'll be accepting book donations at the Townsquare Media studio, located at 4303 Memorial Highway in Mandan.

We're looking for new or gently used books, birth - age 10 reading level. All the books we receive will be donated to local low income schools.

So donate some books today and be part of the solution!
