Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund, was crowned Miss America on Sunday night and became the first ever contestant from North Dakota to win.

The twenty-three-year-old, Cara Mund, was crowned among 51 competitors from each state, along with the District of Columbia at the competition in Atlantic City. Savvy Shields, formerly Miss Arkansas, placed the crown atop the newly crowned Miss America.

The contestants went through a series of interviews, speeches, as well as talent and swimsuit contests to determine the winner of the pageant. The top five were Texas, Missouri, New Jersey, District of Columbia, and North Dakota.

Just a few months back, we got a chance to chat with Miss Cara Mund about several topics, including the work she's done to help the Make-A-Wish-Foundation and her future endeavors beyond the Miss America pageant.
