As the country continues to recover from hurricanes that devastated Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, the North Dakota National Guard knows other places need help as well.

The U.S. Virgin Islands, another territory that belongs so the United States like Puerto Rico, was also hit by hurricanes. The Virgin Islands are only about 100+ miles from Puerto Rico.

Today, the North Dakota National Guard sent out a press release indicating that they sent 80 tons of equipment to help support the recovery efforts to the Virgin Islands. Six C130 aircraft flew to the island this past weekend.

“These kits contain billeting, self-help Laundry, reverse osmosis water purification unit (ROWPU), which can produce up to 2,200 gallons per hour of potable water,” said, Senior Master Sgt. Tim Laney, 119th Civil Engineer Squadron unit deployment manager in the press release. “We are also sending eight generators along with latrines and a big refrigerator unit.”

Emergency shelters that house up to 150 people were also sent to the islands.

BuzzFeed News is reporting today that some residents on the U.S. Virgin Islands are upset that President Donald Trump did not make the islands part of his trip along with Puerto Rico.

The photo at the top of this post shows North Dakota Air National Guardsmen loading a generator onto a plane in Fargo on Sept. 30.
