North Dakota State's Erin Teschuk will become the sixth former Bison athlete to compete in the Summer Olympic Games, after she won the national title in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Canadian Track & Field Championships and Olympic Trials.

Teschuk will represent Team Canada in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Jeneiro, Brazil.

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Teschuk becomes the first current NDSU student-athlete to qualify for the Olympics. She has been named a seven-time first-team All-American during her time in Fargo, according to GoBison.com.

The last time North Dakota State had a representative in the Summer Olympics was 2012, when Amanda Schock competed in the triple jump for Team USA. NDSU first sent a representative to the Summer Olympics in 1976.

The 2016 Summer Olympics begin on Friday, August 5th.
