For the 26th year in a row, the Labrador Retriever was named the most popular dog in the US, and it should come as no surprise the American Kennel Club named the canine as the ideal family pet because of its temperament. Not only does the Lab have the perfect temperament, they are also smart and because of their intelligence, these dogs can be trained for hunting, special needs or companion on the farm.

It should come as no surprise that Mental Floss has named the Lab as the most popular dog in North Dakota. The Lab is also the favorite dog in neighboring states of Minnesota, Montana and South Dakota.

The second most favorite dog in North Dakota is the German Short-haired Pointer.
