BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the state has caught up with a backlog of applications for concealed weapons licenses.

A record 14,729 applications were submitted in 2013, more than double the number two years earlier. Stenehjem says it overwhelmed staff, and his office temporarily reassigned some staff and authorized overtime to deal with the influx.

Under state law, the state has 60 days in which to issue a concealed weapons license. Stenehjem says the average turnaround time for an application is now down to about 35 days.
