It is no surprise that North Dakota has some of the nicest drivers in the nation according to Insure.com.

I think it's important that I add a little personal commentary here. I have witnessed some of the worst drivers I've ever seen in North Dakota, Bismarck specifically. One particular pet peeve I have is merging. If you're on the interstate or highway and another car is attempting to get on, you should move LEFT to let the vehicle on to the highway, MERGE LEFT will you! You don't own the lane!

Ok, back to the story. Here is the deal, Insure.com used this methodology:

Insure.com commissioned a survey of 2,000 licensed drivers, half women and half men, with respondents representing all areas of the country according to Census population data. The state rankings were calculated using a ratio of the nationwide votes for drivers of the state divided by the number of respondents from the state. The survey was fielded in July 2014.

Now the top five states (including Washington DC) with the rudest drivers are:

  • Idaho
  • Washington DC
  • New York
  • Wyoming
  • Massachusetts

Drum roll please...Because the survey included Washington DC, the list compiles 51 ranks and at number 51(or least-rude) is North Dakota! Other states that round out the bottom (or top) are:

  • Minnesota
  • Maine
  • New Hampshire
  • Montana
  • Oregon

The complete list is very intriguing. What do you think? Do you agree we drive nice in NoDak?
