NAPOLEON, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota cattlemen are offering a $24,000 reward to whoever helps locate their 20 missing calves.

The Bismarck Tribune reports Chad Weigel believes his calves were stolen from the family ranch pasture near Napoleon. The calves are worth roughly $1,500 each. They aren't branded, which makes them easier to sell and harder to identify.

The Logan County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

Weigel says he is puzzled by the apparent theft because someone would have needed to use a horse trailer-sized load without anyone noticing. He and his sons noticed the missing cows about five weeks ago while sorting their herd.

The Weigels are providing $10,000 and the North Dakota Stockmen's Association is providing $14,000 for the reward package.
