LAMOURE, N.D. (AP) — A semitrailer crash in southeastern North Dakota killed an estimated 400 turkeys and injured the South Dakota driver.

The Highway Patrol says the semi went out of control on a curve on a county road near LaMoure about 9 p.m. Monday and landed on its side in the ditch.

The semi was hauling a flatbed trailer with cages containing about 800 turkeys. Patrol Sgt. Tom Herzig says the owner of the turkeys rounded up those that were not killed.

Fifty-nine-year-old driver Lavern Lentz, of Huron, South Dakota, was flown to an Aberdeen hospital with what the patrol said were serious injuries.
