FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota farmers this year have planted about the same amount of spring wheat as last year, but a lot more durum wheat.

The Agriculture Department says in its annual acreage report that North Dakota's staple spring wheat crop totals 6.3 million acres, up 1 percent from a year ago. The state's durum wheat crop is estimated at 1.1 million acres, up 31 percent.

North Dakota farmers also planted more barley, oats, canola, oil sunflowers, flaxseed, sugar beets and potatoes. They planted less soybeans, safflower, dry beans and alfalfa hay. Acres of corn were unchanged.
