Every year, there's a wide range of popular events that are some of the most streamed throughout the country. When you break it down by state, North Dakota's isn't much of a surprise.

From year-to-year, whether it's the Super Bowl, the Grammys, the Oscars, March Madness, or the NBA Finals, some events happen as they would on a yearly basis. However, last year, such events as the Presidential Inauguration, Mayweather vs. McGregor, and the solar eclipse also took place. Each of these events was the most streamed in 2017 somewhere in the U.S., but not in North Dakota. To no one's surprise, last year's most streamed event in North Dakota was the Miss America Pageant.

By now, we all know the story of Miss America 2018 Cara Mund from Bismarck, ND, as she became the first Miss North Dakota to ever be crowned Miss America. Our state definitely had a vested interest in such an event. The only other state where the Miss America Pageant was the most streamed event last year was Alaska.

The NBA Finals was the most streamed in eight states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Utah, along with Washington, D.C.

The solar eclipse was the most streamed event across Idaho, Missouri, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wyoming. In fact, 88 percent of the country watched the event either in person or online. That's more than double the amount of people who watched the Super Bowl last year. You can view the entire map to see what states viewed which event last year.

Frontier Communications collected the data based on Google trends. Political developments and natural disasters were not considered "events" for this particular study.
