Potential 2 Or 3 Day Winter Storm For North Dakota This WEND?

According to the National Weather Service, confidence is growing for an impactful winter storm this weekend.

March might be coming in like a lion in North Dakota.

How will this potential winter system affect Bismarck Mandan?

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service for Bismarck Mandan is calling for chances of snow to begin for south central North Dakota on Saturday.  Snow will become likely on Sunday and into Monday.  There will be wind associated with this system, so blustery conditions are possible, and depending on the time of this storm, it could become impactful.

The amount of snow that could accumulate from this system depends on temperatures as we will have some pretty warm weather just prior.  High temps in Bismarck are expected to be in the 50s on both Thursday and Friday.

This comes just a few days after Bismarck set an all-time record for the biggest 24-hour temperature variation in its history.

Some of this precipitation may start out as rain or mixed precipitation.  This could greatly affect how much snowfall may actually fall.  Because we are still a few days out, forecasters are hesitant to predict actual snowfall amounts, but the potential is there with a strong low-pressure system with wind associated with it, to turn into an impactful winter storm.

This will be a busy weekend in North Dakota for travel with lots of events going on.

The West Region boys and girls basketball tournament is happening here in Bismarck.  The Class B & Class A girl's state basketball tournaments are taking place in Jamestown and Minot.  There's also a big concert in Grand Forks with Journey and Toto playing.

Plenty of people will be on the move.  Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.
