2 Bismarck schools were on brief lockdown Thursday afternoon after the police department received a report of a man in the area that was threatening to harm himself and or his girlfriend.

The two schools with locked doors were Will-Moore Elementary School and Martin Luther School.

Bismarck Police reported the incident at 12:40 p.m. when the man sent text messages threatening to harm himself. The police department tracked the cell signal to the 500 block of East Avenue F.

The girlfriend was found and removed from the house. It was later discovered the man in question did not have a gun and had not made any threats.

The man was transported to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.

The two schools in the area were on locked down for a brief time as a precautionary measure.

Students were unaware of the situation.
