According to Butterball Turkeys, America's top producer of turkeys to local supermarkets, you may have a difficult time finding that fat, fresh, big bird! They announced the company is having some problems delivering the bigger fresh birds to stores around the country.

In a memo that circulated to various grocer chains, the company informed stores that  orders for fresh turkeys 16 pounds and bigger have been cut by at least 50%, and the concern is the size, which is the most popular size bird for the holidays.

Now to be very clear, this only effects fresh turkeys, you will be able to find the frozen Butterball turkey with no problem at all. Plus other farms selling the big frozen and fresh birds will be more than happy to fill the void left by Butterball.

We've made a few calls to local retailers and for the Bismarck-Mandan area, the supply of frozen turkeys will be available. Local grocers do not expect a shortage of birds, but the all encourage you to shop early!
