The States Refusing To Give Up Their Guns: How About North Dakota?

Some states across the country these days are willingly turning in their guns to authorities.

In an effort to reduce gun violence across the United States government agencies have implemented "buyback programs" to get guns off the streets.

An article caught my eye recently in 24/7 Wall Street, discussing which states are just dying to give up their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.

When I began reading this article I fully expected this to be another "take all the guns away" and we will all live in harmony and be singing kumbaya every night.

Let me remind you why our forefathers had the insight to implement the 2nd Amendment in the first place.

The 2nd Amendment reads as follows. "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed".

However, when you break down the data on these buy-back programs you have to ask are you really taking the guns away from criminals or just taking them away from law-abiding citizens?

A quote from the 1953 movie "Shane" has stuck with me all these years.  "A gun is a tool, Marian: no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel, or anything.  A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it.  Remember that."

According to the article, the 5 states giving up their guns the most are as follows:

5. Tennessee

4. California

3. Lousianna

2. Maine

1. Maryland

How about North Dakota?  How do we compare with the rest of the country when comes to turning in its guns?

Let's just say we North Dakotans aren't buying into the buyback programs.

North Dakota sits at #42 in the country when it comes to turning its guns.

How about our neighboring state?  Minnesota is next least likely at #31.  Surprisingly, South Dakota is at #25, and Montana (heavily influenced by all of its California transplants?) is at #20.
