BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A woman and man are facing numerous criminal charges following a police chase in central North Dakota.

Both of the suspects, 27-year-old Samantha Nygaard and 29-year-old Giovanni Schwarting, had outstanding felony warrants related to prior cases.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a trooper attempted to stop a stolen vehicle displaying fake license plates Thursday morning. A pursuit began when the driver failed to pull over and fled east on Interstate 94 toward Bismarck.

Three of the vehicle's tires were flattened after Burleigh County Sheriff's Department deployed tire spikes. Authorities say the driver and passenger exited the vehicle, fled on foot and were arrested after a brief search.

Nygaard was charged with seven counts of various crimes, while Schwarting was charged with two counts.

It wasn't immediately known if they have attorneys.
