WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — A state advocacy group says the homeless population in the Williston region is dwindling, but the number of people living without adequate shelter is still troubling.

The North Dakota Coalition for Homeless People estimates 370 homeless in Williams, McKenzie and Divide counties. That's down from the peak of 624 in 2013.

Most homeless in the Williston area say they came there in search of work. Oil activity has dropped off as crude prices have dropped.

Officials recently announced that the Project Heat program in Williston that for the past two winters helped temporarily homeless men with shelter won't operate this winter due to a reduced need.

Coalition Executive Director Michael Carbone tells the Williston Herald (http://bit.ly/1RtnWVB ) that the number of homeless is still concerning.
