Wolford Hayride Takes A Tragic Turn
WOLFORD, N.D. (AP) — A Wolford family known for its horse-drawn wagon rides is grieving after a weekend ride turned tragic.
The Halvorson family was operating a hayride on state Highway 17 just west of Wolford on Saturday afternoon when the wagon was rear-ended by a three-quarter-ton pickup truck.
Fifty-three-year-old Bradley Cichos, of Rugby, died at the scene, along with the two Clydesdale horses pulling the wagon. Four other people were injured, including the 4-year-old daughter of Landon and Sierra Halvorson.
Landon's father, Lyman, and Lyman's 18-year-old daughter also were hurt.
Pierce County Sheriff Josh Siegler tells WDAZ-TV that it's one of the worst accidents in the county in several years. He calls it "a terrible tragedy."
No charges have been filed against the 75-year-old pickup driver, who wasn't hurt in the crash.
