BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A planned $6.5 million apartment complex aims to help alleviate a housing shortage in downtown Bismarck.

The Bismarck Renaissance Authority is planning the 30-unit complex for people age 55 and older. It's to be built on an empty lot in the heart of downtown where a car dealership once stood.

Planners are seeking local property tax and state income tax breaks for the project. Construction is begin next spring.

City Commissioner Josh Askvig tells The Bismarck Tribune the city wants to see more housing downtown. He says people want to live near restaurants, businesses and hospitals.
