Saturday afternoon, (Feb.25) the power plant was disconnected from the power grid. It wasn't a huge surprise since the employees of the plant knew this day was coming since the summer of 2016. A few workers will remain on site for cleanup and getting the plant ready for decommissioning. Plant officials say demolition will start in 2018 and will continue until the job is complete which could take a few years.

The plant was facing expensive upgrades or the other option was to shut it down.  Some of the employees are transferring to other facilities while some are retiring and a small number will be unemployed.
