Another State Fair Bites The Dust. Now Minnesota Has Cancelled!

According to an article on WCCO TV, the Minnesota State Fair has cancelled due to concerns over COVID-19.  "The Great Minnesota Get Together" as it's know as, is only being cancelled for just the 6th time in it's 161 years of it's existence.  In fact, the last time the Minnesota State Fair was cancelled was 1946 due to another pandemic, polio.

Annual attendance for the Minnesota State Fair is over 2 million people and is one of the most well attended state fairs in the nation.  It's by far the most well attended event in the state every year according to the article.

I mentioned that the last time the Minnesota State Fair was cancelled was in 1946 over polio.   And it was reportedly canceled only four times before that.  Back in 1945 due to travel restrictions during World War II, in 1893 because it was up against the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.  The other two time happened 1861 and 1862 because of the Civil War and the U.S.-Dakota War.

The Minnesota State Fair is typically held the last two weeks before Labor day and is Summer's last hurrah for many Minnesotan's.  Back in April it was reported that officials were considering pushing back the event or even shorting according to the article.

Officials from the Minnesota State Fair say that gate admissions for 2020 will be honored at 2021 and no further action is required.  Same with concert ticket purchases.

So you're going to have to find a new source for "food on a stick" this year with no North Dakota State Fair and now Minnesota.
