FORT BERTHOLD, N.D. (AP) — A 24-year-old Rosebud Sioux tribal member has been charged with child abuse for allegedly leaving her two young children to die in a car on a cold day in North Dakota.

An FBI agent says Michelle Wounded Face left her children in a car that wasn't running on the Fort Berthold Reservation. The agent says the children weren't properly dressed for the cold weather.

Court documents show the average temperature that day was 1 degree and a wind chill advisory had been issued.

Police say they discovered an assault rifle in the vehicle when they found the shivering children, who survived.

Court documents allege Wounded Face told authorities she had left her children to die.

The federal public defender's office didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
