BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Bismarck man has turned a smelly chore into a profitable enterprise that helps North Dakota animals.

Homeowners can hire Steve Smith and his Doo Doo Dudes operation to clean up dog feces from their yards.

He tells KXMB-TV that he doesn't mind the work because he grew up on a farm and ranch, so he's been picking up after animals all his life.

Smith says he first sprays the excrement with bleach and then starts scooping it up. He usually collects about two bags in the average yard, but a recent job took three hours and yielded eight bags.

Smith says most of the profits help fund Atti's Eats, a pet pantry that his wife, Alison Smith, started to help feed animals across the state.
