BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Bismarck residents wanting to get a better idea of what the Bismarck Police Department does can enroll in the department's Citizen Police Academy.

The police department says the weekly three-hour-long classes will be held between September 4 and November 13. Police say the academy will let the public experience aspects of police work firsthand and give the public a better understanding of the police department's daily responsibilities.

Classes will be taught by members of the Bismarck Police Department.

To be eligible for the free program, applicants must live, work or attend school in Bismarck, have no criminal record, and pass a background check. Applications for the academy are available at the police department or on the police department's website.
