BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Bismarck's main government meeting room is unusable after boiler pipes froze and burst, flooding the basement of the city-county building over Thanksgiving.

The Bismarck Tribune reports about 2 inches of water flooded the Tom Baker Meeting Room, an elevator, video camera equipment, carpeting, election equipment, stored county papers and electrical outlets.

A contractor has vacuumed the water out but repairs continue this week, and operation of the four-story elevator is on hold.

A damage estimate was not immediately compiled. County Auditor Kevin Glatt estimates that damage to the election equipment alone could exceed $50,000.
