During a recent stop on SiriusXM The Highway's Storme Warren Show, Devin Dawson finally had the chance to talk about a project that's been in the works for quite some time. "God's Country," a song that Dawson co-wrote with fellow up-and-comer Hardy, will soon be released as the next single for superstar Blake Shelton.

"This is literally the first time I'm ever talking about "God's Country" in the public, I guess," Dawson relates during the interview. "It's Blake Shelton's new single. I'm so proud of the song, and that he wanted to sing it."

Dawson goes on to explain that although he and Hardy are, in some ways, very different, they both come from similar musical backgrounds, and have both taking circuitous paths to eventually finding their homes in the country format. Dawson cut his teeth performing in a metal band, while Hardy grew up listening to heavy rock -- though he always had an ear for good storytellers, such as John Prine.

Dawson adds that their diverse musical experience informs the sound fans will hear in "God's Country." "Hardy and I both come from, like, a metal background, and it's pretty heavy, man. But it still has the lyric that I need, to chew on. It has heart."

A press release from Shelton's team confirms that "God's Country" is due out on March 29. In addition to Dawson and Hardy, songwriter Jordan Schmidt co-wrote the track.

""God’s Country" is a song that has a strong and deep meaningful lyric, but at the same time it leaves it up to the listeners interpretation," Shelton shares in the release. “But no matter where you are from or where you’re standing it is my belief that you’re standing in God’s Country. It’s really about a state of mind. Wherever you’re from and how you feel about that place. For me it’s about being from Oklahoma – where I was born, raised and still live today.”

For his part, Dawson says he can't wait for listeners to get their hands on the finished product: "I won't give it away, but there's a last verse that talks about, like 'Whenever I go, don't -- I don't wanna worry about this, I just wanna ...'" he continues, trailing off.

"I won't give it away, but it makes me emotional!" Dawson concludes.
