FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney has been named chairman of a national law enforcement group that works with SWAT teams, bomb squads, hostage rescue operations, K-9 units and unmanned aircraft systems.

Laney was selected to lead the special operations committee of National Sheriffs' Association, or NSA. He has served with the group for four years.

The NSA more than 3,080 elected sheriffs across the nation and has a total membership of approximately 20,000 people. The organization serves as an information clearinghouse for sheriffs, deputies, chiefs of police, other law enforcement professionals, state governments and the federal government.

Laney has been Cass County sheriff since 2006.
