BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Catholic Health Initiatives is donating $10 million to the University of Mary — the largest gift the private Bismarck school has received.

The money will fund endowed scholarships supporting students enrolled in nursing and other health care-focused academic programs at Mary.

CHI is based in Colorado and has a division in Fargo. Bismarck-based St. Alexius Medical Center in September became an affiliate of the national nonprofit health system. CHI and St. Alexius are forming a regional health system of hospitals and clinics in western and central North Dakota.

Jeffrey Drop with CHI says Mary is the "perfect partner" for the nonprofit's growing presence in the state.

University President James Shea says CHI's gift will strengthen the existing relationship between Mary and St. Alexius.
