Yesterday (July 21) was National Junk Food Day. Until yesterday, I had no clue that was a thing. But it will probably now be one of my favorite unobserved holidays.

In honor of the National Junk Food Day 2020, I'll share some interesting junk food facts, courtesy of factretriever.com:

  • "Eating junk food alters the brain activity in a way similar to addictive drugs do." (hence, the reason why I struggle to kick my junk food eating habits)
  • "Four out of five children recognize the Mcdonald's logo by the time they are three years old, which is before some of them know their own names."
  • "Castoreum, which is used as vanilla flavoring in candies and baked goods is actually a secretion from the anal glands of beavers." (Note to self: never use imitation vanilla every again)

I actually have a love-hate relationship with junk food. It is so delicious, but I know it is horrible to eat. But it is not easy to pick a healthy option over a sinfully delightful one. And I can admit that I often do not have the will-power to eat healthy. And being at home and with my family more has not helped either. My master chef parents like to cook all the terrible meals for their kids.

While my fiance loves the sweets like chocolate and ice cream, I am more into the salty and savory junk food like popcorn and chips. I am having a hankering for snacks as I write this. Check out my favorite junk foods below.
