Cost of Torching Church: $350,000

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A judge who sentenced a North Dakota man to more than three years in prison for burning down a church has now ordered him to pay back more than $350,000.

Phoenix Martinez, of Cannonball, pleaded guilty in June to arson. Authorities say he set fire to the St. James Episcopal Church on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in July 2012. The church was destroyed.

U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland in September sentenced Martinez to 40 months in prison. The sentence for restitution was delayed until last week.
