For four decades, the Kennedy Center Honors have recognized some of our nation's most significant and beloved artists -- individuals whose talents and names stand the test of time. Earning a Kennedy Center Honor has been compared to receiving British knighthood or the French Legion of Honor; they're a mark of an artist's enduring legacy.

Country artists who have received Kennedy Center Honors in the past include Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, George Jones and more. And on Dec. 2, 2018, the Kennedy Center will recognize another group of talented people, including country music's very own Reba McEntire.

"Country songstress Reba McEntire has inspired us for over four decades with her powerhouse voice and music that conveys heartfelt, heart-warming honesty," says Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein in a press release. McEntire joins Cher, Philip Glass, Wayne Shorter, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Andy Blankenbuehler and Alex Lacamoire in the list of 2018 Kennedy Center Honors honorees.

The Kennedy Center Honors event will be broadcast via CBS on Dec. 26 at 8PM ET. More information about the Kennedy Center Honors can be found on the Kennedy Center's official website. Click through the photo gallery below to learn about country music's recipients.
