MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Architects designing a new hospital in Minot are planning for a 208-bed facility that will encompass half a million square feet on 72 acres of land in the south part of the city.

Trinity Health operates the only hospital in Minot, the state's fourth-largest city. Trinity announced in June that it's becoming part of Montana-based Billings Clinic RegionalCare — a partnership that will include a new medical campus.

The Indiana-based architect company TEG is developing the project and expects to have the initial design finished early next year. Trinity Vice President Randy Schwan says site preparation could begin next year, with the hospital opening sometime in 2019.

The existing hospital was built in 1922. It was designed for 10-20 departments, and it now has about 40 departments and specialty areas.
