Monday, September 21st is the first day North Dakota farmers and ranchers can sign up to receive a part of the second wave of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program. It sounds like it's a "food-stamps" kinda program. It is not. The Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (C-FAP for short), is making $14 billion available in direct cash payments to those that have seen their costs go up during this crisis while their markets are failing to make up the difference.

It doesn't stop with beef cattle, lambs and sheep, or hogs and pigs. If you're raising livestock for feathers, fur, fiber, or food- you may qualify for cash. So if you raise emus you could be in. Deer and Ducks? Maybe. Something called a "Beefalo"? You may qualify! Wikipedia tells me a beefalo is 3/8 Bison and 5/8 Bovine, a fertile hybrid offspring of domestic cattle.  So that's a real thing.  Jackalope ranchers probably need not apply. Also not eligible are operations raising animals exclusively for breeding purposes only.

So really, if you dabble in price trigger commodities, flat-rate crops, or sales commodities you may be able to demonstrate you're eligible for a piece of that sweet  C-FAP cash.

Wondering if you qualify for any of that $14 billion? Odds are if you're in the crop growing or livestock business- you probably have a chunk of money available. But you'll need to sign up for your share- begin the process by clicking this link here.

Note the window of eligibility ends 12/11/20.
