BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — An industry expert says gas prices in North Dakota may drop below an average of $3 a gallon before the end of the year.

AAA North Dakota spokesman Gene LaDoucer says Tuesday's average of $3.22 per gallon is down 23 cents since Labor Day and the lowest average since February. The national average is $3.10, down 34 cents since Labor Day and the lowest price since Jan. 12, 2011.

The average price in Fargo was $2.98. Other averages are $3.06 in Grand Forks, $3.29 in Minot, $3.32 in Bismarck, $3.33 in Dickinson, and $3.42 in Williston.

LaDoucer says the last time the state or national average fell below $3 a gallon was in December 2010.
