I don't know why I think of these types of questions, but I do. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but many of my friends are. Do you ever wonder how our beer prices in North Dakota compare to the rest of the nation?

According to the Tax Foundation.org, there is really no rhyme or reason for taxing of beer. It varies from across the nation from a low of $0.02 per gallon in Wyoming to a whopping $1.17 per gallon in Tennessee.

Here is an interesting fact - according to the Beer Institute, (I never knew there was such an organization) the TAX is the most expensive ingredient in the beer you drink. The tax costs more than the labor and packaging. GO FIGURE!

North Dakota is the 16th highest beer tax in the nation, with .39/gallon.

The most taxable state for beer is Tennessee with a burden of (per gallon) $1.29 followed by Alaska with $1.07.

If you want to pay the cheapest tax, go to the aforementioned Wyoming, with the cheapest tax of .02/gallon. Next door to us in NoDak, Montana is 40 cents and Minnesota is 47 cents.
