Huff Hills South Of Bismarck/Mandan Now Open!
As I write this, I'm glancing at the brown field outside my window and thinking- why would crews work around the clock for days to create snow? That downhill skiing must really be addicting to many people. I'm not one of those people. I was hoping to not have a white Christmas, because I had lots of highway travel to get accomplished. Southern Minnesota and South Dakota had a white Christmas blizzard, from what I gathered they didn't care for it all that much. So I'm happy that ski resort crews can create enough snow to get the ski bums and bunnies an opportunity to hit the slopes this past weekend. I'm sure that a foot of natural snow and consistent cold temperatures would make their work a whole lot easier. But it would make clearing my driveway a whole lot harder. So let's just agree to disagree.
But people seem pretty darn pleased with the progress the crew at Huff Hills accomplished to open up December 26th. Take a peek at their Facebook page to see the snow making equipment in action. Read the comments and you can feel the excitement and anticipation of the skiing community.
So, I thought I'd take a "peak" at the Terry Peak Ski Resorts Facebook page and see how South Dakota skiers were reacting to the opening weekend. They were much less enthused than their cheery North Dakota counterparts. It seems that as a "season ticket" holder, they feel they should have exclusive access to whatever limited ski slopes and limited parking spaces that are available. So when Terry Peak hit capacity over the weekend, they got so much push back from these season ticket holders, that this week they are setting aside 8 AM- 9 AM for just season ticket holders.
Keep up the patience and optimism North Dakota, the snow and cold will come plenty soon enough.
Stay safe on the slopes y'all.
