Icy road conditions are thought to have played a part in an accident that claimed the life of a 21 year old after he rear ended a semi-truck on I94 Sunday.

Officials say the man was driving east when he ran into the rear of a semi truck that was stopped in the passing lane.

Other accidents were in the area as drivers were trying to avoid hitting other vehicles on the road and shoulder.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the accident happened about six miles east of Richardton.

The 21 year old was driving a Camry. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He had two other passengers in his car who were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson.
