JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — Jamestown residents have voted to limit the sale and discharge of fireworks to five days over the Fourth of July holiday.

Fireworks have been allowed nine days — from June 27 through July 5. The City Council in August voted to let residents decide the proper length of time, after complaints that a nine-day period was excessive.

KQDJ radio reports that Tuesday's vote was close, with 52 percent of voters approving the five-day limit. More than 5,200 people voted.
