"Old Town Road" singer Lil Nas X revealed that he's gay on Sunday (June 30), the final day of Pride Month. In a tweet, the rapper let's his song "C7osure" serve as a coming out announcement, seemingly confirming it with a second tweet later in the day.

"some of y'all already know, some of y'all don't care, some of y'all not gone fwm no more," he begins in the June 30 tweet. "but (sic) before this month ends i want y'all to listen closely to c7osure (sic)."

The song from his 7 EP goes:

"True say, I want and I need to let go, use my time to be free / Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow / No more red light for me baby, only green, I gotta go / Pack my past up in the back, oh, let my future take ahold / This is what I gotta do, can’t be regrettin’ when I’m old."

That alone is not absolute confirmation that he did indeed come out, but he heightened speculation to near certainty with a follow-up tweet that read "deada-- thought i made it obvious (sic)" over two rainbow-themed images.

Fans responded with words of support and encouragement. Many expressed something less than total shock.

The 20-year-old Atlanta-born rapper named Montero Hill first caught the nation's attention in March when "Old Town Road" started to go viral. After being banned from the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, Billy Ray Cyrus signed up for a remix and together they've owned the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 chart. Lil Nas X made appearances at CMA and Stagecoach and also recently performed with Cyrus at the BET Awards.
