The solstice will take place Saturday morning in the 5 AM hour in Bismarck.

According to the Free on Line Dictionary, the definition of Solstice is

1. Either of two times of the year when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. The summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere occurs about June 21, when the sun is in the zenith at the tropic of Cancer; the winter solstice occurs about December 21, when the sun is over the tropic of Capricorn. The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and the winter solstice is the shortest.
2. A highest point or culmination.

So by definition, the sun will be at it's highest point in the sky, it is the longest day of the year with over 16 hours of daylight in Bismarck. After that, the days start to get shorter, but not by a lot. As we progress through the summer months, after Saturday, we'll start to lose about a minute of sunlight a day. What are your plans for Saturday?
